Welcome to the Gundungarra: Moss Vale Community

We would like to acknowledge the Gundungurra people, the Traditional Custodians of this land. We would also like to pay our respects to the Elders both past and present. We would like to extend that respect to other Aboriginal people and local community members.

Moss Vale High School is part of the Southern Highlands community and is located on traditional lands. The high school itself is located on Gundungurra land. This land has a rich and diverse cultural heritage of which we are very proud.

Wendy Lotta talks about the projects that she has done with Moss Vale High School and its role in ensuring that we all learn about Aboriginal history and culture.

Peter MacBeth, principal of Moss Vale High School, talks about his school’s involvement in the MGoals project. The following is a video and an announcement from Peter that welcomes everyone to this community site.

I am thrilled and excited to be able to be part of this incredibly exciting project MGoals. This website will help showcase the wonderful rich and positive Aboriginal culture that exists in our community.
My role is to talk to you about the role that education plays in ensuring that the strong and effective partnerships that we in schools have with our local Aboriginal community continue to grow. This website will be a showcase of that partnership.

The schools in the Moss Vale Community of Schools (MVCOS) work very closely together and are very committed towards ensuring that the traditional owners of our land, the Gundungarra people, are part of our schools and part of the education of every one of our students.

The schools that are part of the MVCOS are committed towards working with our Aboriginal community through real and effective relationships that are focussed on supporting our students in their educational journey. We really enjoy the spirit, the community feel and we enjoy the opportunity to learn from our Aboriginal community and our elders so that we can use their experiences and expertise in a way that benefits our students.

The schools in the MVCOS work closely with our Aboriginal community because we understand the critically important role that education plays in ensuring that our students grow up to be successful members of our society. Education also ensures that our students can build a future for them and can help ensure that their dreams become reality.

As I have said we place great emphasis and value on our partnerships and the relationships that we have with our Aboriginal community. Our Aboriginal community are part of our school and we are excited about the future opportunities that through working together will provide our students.
We hope to see you in our schools soon!
Best Wishes,
Peter Macbeth
Principal
Moss Vale High School

At Moss Vale High School we want our students to have the opportunity to be successful in all areas of school life. The Positive Behaviour for Success system encourages students to be respectful, responsible, safe young people who value their contributions to their school. We strongly believe that success at school will lead to greater success in life beyond.

In an effort to build a positive school culture and to encourage Positive Behaviour for Success we have established common values, a common language, a reward system, and we are continually forging significant links with the wider community. Now with the inclusion of our Gundungarra symbols, Positive Behaviour for Success has taken an exciting new step of which we are grateful.
